          1 Introduction of common flat keys
    
          The flat key is a key that relies on the two sides as the working surface, and the torque is transmitted by the extrusion of the key and the side of the keyway. Flat keys are divided into three types: ordinary flat keys, thin flat keys, and guided flat keys.           2 Purpose and function
    
          The common flat key is the most widely used, because of its simple structure, convenient disassembly and assembly, and good neutrality, it is suitable for occasions with high speed, variable load and impact.
    
          The semicircular key is like a semicircle and can be swung in the keyway to adapt to the shape of the bottom surface of the hub keyway.           3 Keyway and key connection
    
          Loose: the fit code of hub and key is D10/h8, and the fit of shaft and key is H9/h8; it is used for occasions where the hub can slide along the axial direction on the shaft.
    
          General: The cooperation code of the hub and the key is JS9/h8, and the cooperation of the shaft and the key is N9/h8; it is used for occasions where the load is not large, it is not necessary to eliminate the return clearance, and the hub does not need to slide along the axial direction on the shaft .
    
          Shock: The matching codes of the hub and the key and the shaft and the key are P9/h8; it is used for the occasions where the load is large or there is an impact load, the return clearance needs to be eliminated, and the hub does not need to slide along the axial direction on the shaft.
    
    
          4 Keyway and key matching selection skills
    
          Selection of flat key size: the section size b×h of the flat key is selected from the standard according to the diameter d of the shaft. The length L is generally determined according to the width of the hub, and the key length is required to be slightly shorter than that of the hub by 5~10 mm, and conform to the length series value.
    
          Selection of flat key type: The type of flat key should be selected according to the structure of the key connection, use characteristics and working conditions. The following aspects should be considered when selecting: the size of the torque to be transmitted; whether the parts connected to the shaft need to slide along the shaft and the length of the sliding distance; the neutrality requirements for the connection; whether the key needs to have an axially fixed function; and the position of the key on the shaft (in the middle or at the end of the shaft), etc.
    
           Strength check of the flat key connection: the main failure mode of the flat key connection is the crushing and wear of the working surface (for the dynamic connection). Key clipping generally does not occur unless there is a severe overload.
